Logo Decription

The bird flying against the blue sky is a symbol of the legendary Simorgh that takes the message of peace around the world. The upward flight signifies efforts for excellence. The white reflection on the bird’s wings is the sun’s rays bringing light, warmth and hope. The green half circle above the bird is a symbol of our green earth and our only home. Small arteries take shape in the green circle forming the bird, they are rivers which flow to and from the sea. The void, colourless space below the bird seems like a fish, indicating the importance of wildlife and also indicating a space for freedom. The turquoise curve at the bottom signifies the balance of life and points to the importance of protecting life. The colours used in this logo are signs of peace, sea, and forest with the blue and turquoise colours pointing to Persian–Islamic art.

Report on the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Theology and Energy
NewsReport on the Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Theology and Energy
by Luke Higgins
The 2009 Interdisciplinary Colloquium on Theology and Energy took place at the University of Central Arkansas from February 20-21, 2009. Organized by Clayton Crockett, Associate Professor and Director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Religious Studies at UCA, and Donna Bowman, Assistant Professor at the UCA Honors College, this conference engaged the important interdisciplinary topic of energy through the lens of a wide range of current theological and philosophical frameworks, including Process theology and philosophy, postmodern theology, Continental philosophy, and cultural theory. Although most of the papers' theoretical explorations of energy addressed the environmental crisis, many papers explored more cosmological and philosophical approaches to energy as well, linking scientific and theological speculation in creative ways.

NGOTitle : Scientists Denounce Use Of Children in GM Feeding Trials
Date : 09 March 2009
Dear Friends and colleagues,
It has been brought to light that three clinical experiments are being conducted which involve the feeding of genetically modified Golden Rice to human subjects (adults and children.).
The feeding trials are being conducted by the Tufts University School of Medicine (US) and information released on the US Clinical Trials web site indicate that Chinese children suffering from varying degrees of Vitamin A deficiency have been used in the feeding trials.
However, a group of senior scientists/academics strongly condemn the experiments saying that the conduct is a severe breach of medical ethics and have called for these GM feeding experiments to be terminated immediately. The three Projects are said to have breached the Nuremberg Code/medical ethics code on a number of counts, such as the use of very young children for the experiments.
